Trick or Treat Scooby-Doo! – Film Review

Whether or not you are already a fan of Scooby-Doo will determine how much you are going to enjoy Audie Harrison‘s brand new animated feature Trick or Treat Scooby-Doo! Not just because it follows the exact same tried-and-true formula that the franchise has been utilizing since the start, but also because it features tons of classic villains from the series.

So if you are a fan, you should have absolutely no issues with sitting back and enjoying this fast-paced and breezy animated adventure, just like I did, since I grew up as a kid watching all of the cartoon episodes. However, if you have yet to be impressed with this franchise, I can assure you that Trick or Treat Scooby-Doo! isn’t going to change your mind on the whole thing.

This is the definition of a movie that you can throw on and sit back and enjoy for an hour or so. There’s really nothing about this movie that’s incredible, but it is certainly a huge heaping of fun. It features a classic Scooby-Doo mystery and manages to tell a compelling enough story for us viewers to get invested into.

The main reason why I watch this series, though, is to hangout with the characters. For me, the cartoons were never about trying to fight off evil monsters (which was definitely cool to me as a kid), it was all about just going on a fun adventure with Shaggy, Scooby, Velma, Daphne, and Fred.

They’re one of the most iconic groups in cartoon history, and getting to see them band together here again is delightful. All of the voice work here is truly outstanding, too. Frank Welker is utterly perfect as the voice of Scooby-Doo, as is the iconic Matthew Lillard as Shaggy, who can honestly never be replaced.

All of the animation on display here is also phenomenal. All of it reminded me of an old-school episode of the beloved cartoon and made me feel like a kid again, which is exactly what I wanted it to do. So, although it’s not one of the year’s best movies by a long shot, it certainly put a huge smile on my face and made me reminisce on the good old days. So, in other words, the film did its job.

Trick or Treat Scooby-Doo! doesn’t do anything bold or daring for the franchise, but it’s nevertheless a delightfully entertaining and funny animated feature.
