The Mandalorian: Chapter 10: The Passenger – Review

Even the biggest fans of Jon Favreau’s The Mandalorian admit that there are a couple of episodes of the hit Star Wars spinoff series has a couple of episodes that feel like filler and relatively unimportant in the grand scheme of things. As fun and exciting as “Chapter 10: The Passenger” is, that’s exactly what it feels like – filler.
But not every single episode has to be revolutionary and progress the plot forward significantly. Sometimes it’s a good idea to take a little bit of a breather and see some of the various adventures that Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and The Child embark on. “Chapter 10: The Passenger” doesn’t necessarily follow-up on the events of the previous episode, but I suspect that “Chapter 11” will do exactly that, and I really hope it does.
They can’t show us an eerie and incredibly beautiful shot of Boba Fett (Temuera Morrison) alive and well and not bring him back for a future episode, right? I certainly hope that they will. It would be a ton of fun to see how Din and Boba’s paths will cross if that indeed happens. It would not only serve as a nice continuation of Return of the Jedi for massive fans, but it would be great to have more iconic characters from Star Wars canon to appear in The Mandalorian.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again right now – there are so many episodes of this show that feel like a Saturday morning cartoon in all the best ways. It brings out your inner child and you feel genuinely excited to go on another journey with the characters in this universe. “The Passenger” is relentlessly entertaining and honestly doesn’t have a dull moment anywhere throughout its running time of just thirty-five minutes excluding credits, which is admittedly short. Its length means that the episode has little room to develop characters, but instead, the episode focuses on the daring escapes of our characters.
By far, the standout scene in this chapter follows Din and The Child as they explore an ice cave, only to find that it is infested with hundreds or maybe even thousands of ice spiders that Din has to kill. Just when you think things couldn’t get any crazier, a gigantic ice spider emerges which proves to be much harder to kill.
It’s a fairly lengthy scene, but that’s not something to complain about. All of the episode’s action-heavy sequences are always entertaining and are, like usual, visually appealing. There has not been one episode of The Mandalorian that looks boring, and “The Passenger” is certainly no exception.
This episode may prove to be a little disappointing for people that were extremely eager to see if Boba Fett would appear again, or for those people that wanted this season to be one-hundred percent straight-forward with its storytelling, but those who are willing to sit back and enjoy a fun albeit relatively unimportant episode should have a good time.
