Only Murders in the Building – Season 2 Review
Published August 23, 2022
When the first season of Only Murders in the Building debuted on Hulu in August of 2021, it immediately became a smash hit show, capturing the hearts of millions of viewers from all around the world. Heck, you didn’t even have to be a fan of murder mystery-style shows to fall in love with it. Of course, if you are a fan of those shows, it will most likely make the experience that much better.
But I’ve honestly never come across anybody who has disliked the show, and that’s really saying something. The end of season one teased one doozy of a sophomore season, and now that it’s out in its entirety, I can confirm that season two of Only Murders in the Building is absolutely phenomenal, and somehow manages to be better than the first season in every conceivable way. It’s interesting, hilarious, riveting, and surprisingly emotional. It’s everything you could hope for in a show.
It picks up immediately where season one ended and doesn’t waste any time at all in thrusting fans back into the chaos and hilarity. The dynamic between Charles, Mabel, and Oliver is absolutely fantastic yet again, and it’s all thanks to the absolutely outstanding chemistry from stars Steve Martin, Selena Gomez, and Martin Short. Would it be a hot take to say that these three actors have the best chemistry of all time?
They always work magic off one another in every single scene, and they feel so believable as best friends. The banter is there and so is the teamwork. They take things seriously but they’re not afraid to lay back and have a laugh or two. Just seeing these three interact together is always a treat. Heck, they could make ten seasons of this show and have it just be these three goofing around, and it would still be a blast to watch.
There are also a couple of new faces that get introduced to us this time around including Cara Delevingne as Alice Banks – easily one of the most intriguing characters on display. My personal favorite new addition has to be Zoe Colletti in the role of Lucy, who has an extremely interesting backstory. She is, in some ways, the heart and soul of this season.
Since this is a show all about a huge, tangled murder mystery, you’d expect it to have a good script. Thankfully, the story and writing of this second season is miraculously ten times better than the first season, despite that one also being fantastic. Although there are only ten episodes to feast your eyes on, they continuously grab your interest, untangling some of the mystery bit by bit.
But it’s also a blast just to see what kind of zany things the screenwriters come up with here as well. The main mystery in this second season is quite a bit more complex than the first season’s, culminating in one heck of a grand finale that even the most experienced viewers of the mystery genre won’t be able to predict.
Only Murders in the Building is back for a second season filled with even more of an intriguing mystery thanks to a sharp script, impeccable direction, and dazzling lead performances from Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez.
