Jurassic World – Film Review
Published May 24, 2022
Located off the coast of Costa Rica, the Jurassic World luxury resort provides a habitat for an array of genetically engineered dinosaurs, including the vicious and intelligent Indominus rex. When the massive creature escapes, it sets off a chain reaction that causes the other dinos to run amok. Now, it’s up to a former military man and animal expert (Chris Pratt) to use his special skills to save two young brothers and the rest of the tourists from an all-out, prehistoric assault.
Even though none of you that are reading this review have ever seen a legitimate dinosaur in person before, chances are you probably love Jurassic Park. It’s an amazing film directed expertly by the legendary Steven Spielberg, and is highly regarded as one of the greatest films ever made.
Okay, the two sequels weren’t nearly as good as the first one, but chances are, you loved watching the story continue. Fast-forward to 2015 and we have a brand new film in the franchise directed by Colin Trevorrow, called Jurassic World which turned out to be… fine. At least, that’s how I view it these days.
When I first saw Jurassic World in theatres, I was about two weeks away from turning fifteen. Back then, I pretty much loved every single movie that I saw no matter what. When I saw this movie for the first time, I thought it was the most awesome and badass movie in the world, but now that I’ve rewatched it as an almost twenty-two year old, I can certainly say that it’s ridiculously flawed.
One of the most talked about aspects of this film is the fact that, overall, the concept here is, well, kind of terrible. After the horrifically scary aftermath of the first three Jurassic movies, what idiots in their right minds would even want to open yet another dinosaur-themed park?
And, to add on to that, what customers would want to go there? I can safely say right now that if, tomorrow, my local city opened up a place called “Jurassic World,” filled with real, live dinosaurs, I would absolutely not go. Many people would agree with me. When asked why, I can almost promise you their answer will simply be “Have you ever seen Jurassic Park?“.
Yet for some reason, in Jurassic World, so many people flock to the park because… well, I actually don’t even know, and neither do the four screenwriters, it seems. They never delve into this even once, which is kind of a huge shame actually.
Gratefully, the size, scope, and scale of the movie is absolutely phenomenal. This place feels like a living, breathing park, and I must give the creative team tons of credit for crafting such a beautifully realized world in the film. All of the set pieces are incredible, the action is fun and inventive, and it has great musical connections to the first.
Also Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard have incredible chemistry together in this movie. They work marvellously off one another here, setting the stage for the sequel where their dynamic is just as strong.
Overall, I don’t mind Jurassic World. Is is one of the best Jurassic movies? no. But it’s nevertheless a highly entertaining action spectacle.
