Hell House LLC Origins: The Carmichael Manor is a spooky prequel and sequel that combines elements of both to create a terrifying found footage horror experience. The film, which was written and directed by Stephen Cognetti, explores the eerie and mysterious happenings around Carmichael Manor, a location tarnished by the unsolved Carmichael family murders that occurred in the 1980s. Although there are some exciting and terrifying scenes in the film, it doesn’t fully utilize the potential of its idea.

A group of cold case investigators, played by a talented cast that includes James Liddell, Destiny Leilani Brown, and Bridget Rose Perrotta, venture into the mysterious Carmichael Manor in the movie’s intriguing premise, which sets up a promising scene for fear. The objective of the investigators is to ascertain the actual cause of the unsettling incidents that occurred there many years ago. But after spending several nights at the manor, they vanish into thin air, leaving behind only their unsettling footage. With its deeper dive into the lore established by the previous films, the story promises an exciting and terrifying exploration of the unknown.

Characters are given more credibility by the cast’s performances, especially those of James Liddell, Destiny Leilani Brown, and Bridget Rose Perrotta. They are able to fully engross the audience in their mounting terror by authentically expressing dread and unease. The actors have a strong on-screen chemistry that adds to the genuineness of their interactions and humanizes their situation.

But the plot’s execution is where Hell House LLC Origins: The Carmichael Manor falls short. In spite of its intriguing premise, the film fails to maintain a consistently spooky atmosphere. Even when they do occur, the scares are frequently trite and primarily based on jump scares rather than actual psychological horror. The erratic pacing, which alternates between intensely terrifying and uninteresting moments, breaks up the overall tension of the film. Because of this, the story falls short of keeping the audience feeling uneasy and anticipating more, which leaves them wanting more in terms of both scares and storytelling.

Furthermore, the film’s attempt to solve the mystery surrounding the murders of the Carmichael family is not sufficiently resolved. The revelations are shallow and don’t offer a convincing justification for the paranormal activities taking place in the manor. Fans of the series are left feeling let down by the film’s lack of resolution to some questions rather than its contribution to the franchise’s lore.

Hell House LLC Origins: The Carmichael Manor‘s committed performances and deft use of the found footage format make up for its flaws. Reliving the spooky scene and taking in the excellent acting from the cast may bring some joy to fans of the Hell House LLC series. But the film’s failure to fully capitalize on its intriguing premise may disappoint those looking for a truly terrifying and cohesive story.
