A young, newly engaged heiress has a skiing accident in the days before Christmas. After she is diagnosed with amnesia, she finds herself in the care of the handsome cabin owner and his daughter.

While watching Janeen Damian‘s Falling for Christmas, it’s hard not to take it all in and pass it off as a movie that feels so incredibly much like a cheesy, trope-filled Hallmark-style movie. Heck, there were many instances while watching the film in which I was convinced it was a Hallmark movie.

But the truth is, is that I’ve never seen a movie so incredibly fun while having that sense of Hallmark cheesiness. Falling for Christmas is absolutely riddled with tropes to the point where it can be a bit silly, but I’d be lying if I told you that I didn’t have a ton of fun with this movie.

The first twenty minutes are… rough,  to say the least. The characters that we are introduced to are insufferably annoying, namely Tad Fairchild, who is an extremely rich social media influencer type person who got on my nerves in every single scene he’s in. He’s almost never seen in the film doing anything except for talking about how rich he is, and he’s also seen taking way too many selfies in front of fancy cars and while wearing outrageously expensive outfits.

Then, there’s Lindsay Lohan‘s character Sierra, who is initially quite irritating for similar reasons. She’s spoiled rotten and isn’t a very likeable character. However, when she bumps her head and gets memory loss very early on, her character instantly becomes the best of the bunch and it’s that scene that, for me, really signals the true start of the movie.

The rest of the movie that follows is a legitimately heartwarming film that is sure to put a smile on your face, even though you’ll also find yourself shaking your head at just how corny some of the film’s plot beats are. Every movie like this always has to have a struggling family business, right? Well, guess what… this movie has that too.

Lindsay Lohan does such a great job in this movie, though, that she’s one of the biggest reasons why this movie works so well. And despite the fact that she’s literally thirty-six years old, she always manages to bring a sense of innocence and wonder to nearly every single scene.

Chord Overstreet is also another standout here, in the role of the charming but struggling Jake Russell, who just wants to do his job and ensure that the North Star Lodge is as busy as it can be in time for the holiday season. Together, Lohan and Overstreet have great chemistry together.

Honestly, with a movie like this one, you pretty much know what you’re in for before you even click play. If you’re completely turned off by these kinds of movies, then there’s no way this film is going to convert you into a fan. But if you want a syrupy sweet, feel-good Christmas movie to watch to prepare for the season, this one’s quite fun.

Falling for Christmas is undoubtedly a silly, predictable holiday film, but its undying sense of wit and charm, along with its great lead performances, make this festive outing worth watching.
