Deadpool 2 – Film Review
The merc with a mouth is funnier and more crude than he ever has been with the latest installment in the series, Deadpool 2.
When Wade Wilson / Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) meets a teenage boy named Russel Collins / Firefist (Julian Dennison), he learns that a futuristic time travelling man named Cable (Josh Brolin) is on a mission to find the boy and hunt him down. In an effort to prevent this from happening, Deadpool assembles a team known as the X-Force to attempt to stop Cable.

Ryan Reynolds is yet again hilarious in Deadpool 2, just as he was in the first film. In fact, I will actually say that overall, I found this film to be quite a bit funnier than its predecessor, 2016’s Deadpool, which I found extremely comical. There are a few instances in this film however that some jokes become recycled. It seemed as if the writer was unsure of what to write for comedic relief for a few scenes, and so they decide to use jokes that were already told.
There are also quite a few newcomers to the film including Zazie Beetz who portrays a powerful woman named Domino. She is a big standout this time around. One gigantic action sequence that takes place in the middle of the film’s second act left me speechless, due to the great comedic timing, the acting from Beetz, Reynolds, and Brolin, as well as the overall set pieces.
In the beginning of the film however, there were some pretty noticeable pacing issues. The beginning of the film felt fairly rushed, and it seemed like the filmmakers wanted to introduce us to Dennison’s Russell immediately. It would have been nice to have the film feel more coherent.

One of the biggest surprises that Deadpool 2 brings to the table is how emotional it can be during certain scenes. I never would have thought before seeing Deadpool 2 that I would be getting emotional, as the film’s main character is a man who loves to make inappropriate jokes while also helping to stop villains in the process.
While it has some pacing issues and occasionally recycles its own jokes, Deadpool 2 is a hilarious and action-packed experience with a perfect amount of surprising emotion.
