The following article contains some spoilers for Chapter 12: The Siege.

It seems like all of us are in agreement that last week’s episode of Star Wars spinoff series The Mandalorian, titled The Heiress, was the best one of the season thus far. It not only progressed the overall story of the show forward, but it introduced us to some new and exciting faces, as well as teasing the appearance of none other than the legendary Ahsoka Tano.

Many people, myself included, were certain that Tano was going to appear in Chapter 12, even if it was just for a few seconds. Sadly, she does not appear in this episode. And similarly unfortunate, is the fact that The Siege feels just like the early episodes of this season. Relatively generic and just mindless filler.

Although this newest episode brings back familiar favorites such as Cara Dune (Gina Carano) and Greef Karga (Carl Weathers), it feels one-hundred percent like a side-adventure rather than a meaningful and exhilarating continuation of The Mandalorian storyline. We follow our group of heroes as they embark on a new mission and there are plenty of fun action sequences in store for those looking for their action fix, but there is little to offer for those looking for a new chapter that further develops characters and builds upon the story.

I’m really hoping that in the next episode, we will be back on track with Din trying to track down Ahsoka Tano because that’s where the real meat and potatoes of this season lies. It is worth noting that the forthcoming Chapter 13 is written and directed by Dave Filoni, who not only directed some of the best episodes in the first season, but he is co-created by Filoni alongside George Lucas. So, if we do get to see her this season, surely it will be the next episode. If not the next episode, then I am genuinely clueless as to when she will make her appearance.

So far, this season of The Mandalorian has been rather disappointing for the most part. Sure, we have gotten some great episodes such as the aforementioned The Heiress as well as the season debut The Marshal, but it seems like, with every great episode, a filler episode follows in its footsteps. Perhaps that means next week’s episode will be another terrific outing for Din Djarin, The Child, and company, but The Siege is just a mindlessly entertaining action episode with little room for exploration in terms of characters.

The Siege feels like yet another episode of mindlessly fun filler within the second season of The Mandalorian. It’s fun, but it doesn’t do much to progress the show’s overall story forward.
