Suicide Squad is the newest movie in the DC Extended Universe. This movie was my third most anticipated movies of the entire year, because I love the characters of DC Comics, and I was excited to see if the characters and story were done right.

Something I didn’t like right off the bat in Suicide Squad was the way the characters were introduced. The movie’s credits open up, a talking scene which lasts around one minute, then all of the members of the Suicide Squad are introduced immediately, and it felt very rushed.

But I feel as if the Suicide Squad members themselves are the most interesting aspect of this movie, so let’s talk about them.

Margot Robbie plays Harley Quinn, and she was the perfect choice to play this character. Everything about her performance reminded me of the comics, and the way the character is supposed to be, and I hope Margot Robbie continues to play this character for many more movies to come.

Will Smith plays Deadshot in Suicide Squad, and I was actually surprised by how much I enjoyed him in this movie. Usually I don’t enjoy Will Smith in movies, as they usually aren’t that good movies. But in this movie, I actually got behind his character quite a bit.

Jared Leto as The Joker in Suicide Squad (2016)

Killer Croc is also in this movie, which was very exciting for me when it first was announced. I loved this character ever since I was introduced to him for the first time when I was nine while playing 2009’s Batman Arkham Asylum. However, here he feels like a side character. He’s barely shown in the movie, and when he is, he has barely anything to do at all.

Jared Leto portrays the Joker, and when it was first announced, it made many fans, including myself worried. Unfortunately, he isn’t one of the greatest actors to play the Joker in a live action movie, in fact Leto is probably my least favorite movie Joker.

However, the action in the movie makes up for a bunch of issues. I was constantly surprised at how much fun I had watching this movie, because Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, another movie by DC Comics released in the same year, almost had no exciting or fun scenes.

David Ayer’s Suicide Squad has some extreme pacing issues and has a less than stellar story, but boasts strong performances, especially by Margot Robbie who portrays the definitive Harley Quinn.
